No doubt about it, sports play an important role in the development of any society. As a Sports Photographer in NYC, I get to see this unfold on a regular basis through the lens of my camera. Involvement in sports (whether as a player or as a spectator) is well known to increase a person’s zest for life. That is partly due to the fact that many aspects of sports mirror aspects of our daily lives. From the thrill of an athlete as he scores the match-winning goal to the loyalty of fans in the stands who continue to cheer on their team even when winning looks like a mere pipe dream. From a competitor pushing her mind and body to unbelievable limits to ultra-fans coming to the realization that their star player is only human and will blunder or fall sometimes. I get the opportunity to photograph situations like these on small fields, in big arenas and along the city streets as shown by the accompanying photo of cyclists. It is an aspect of sport photography which allows me to draw on my many years of experience as a photojournalist working in several different countries. The pictures I take as a Sports Photographer in NYC tell the amazing stories of athletes, teams and their supporters. I am able to embody the atmosphere of a sporting event within the images I take because of how I approach each of these assignments. Arriving at the venue well ahead of time is key. It not only allows me to take pictures of the setting in which a competition is to be played out but I also get to capture crews setting up for the event as well as athletes arriving and perhaps going through their warm up and pre-game routines. That way, by the time the actual event begins, I am well in tune with the atmosphere and spirit of the game. It helps me to take more meaningful shots of the proceedings when they are underway. In the end, what my clients receive are stunning images that truly represent the sporting events I covered.
