In my years as a Portrait Photographer, NYC has provided me with an extensive supply of inspiration and an array of role models. I draw on their influence and allow it to positively impact the content I produce. In New York, I have had the honor and privilege of working with and photographing quite a number of celebrities. One of these is American actress Glenn Close. Her smiles and the light in her knowing eyes have lit up both the small and big screen, as well as the stages of Broadway. Since her 1982 film debut in The World According to Garp, Close has gone on to become one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood. As of 2016, she has multiple industry awards to her credit but is yet to lay claim to an Oscar from the Academy Awards, despite her six nominations over the years. I think, though, that this portrait captured a hint of something behind the eyes of this actress-turned-film-producer. There is a promise of more to come and a confidence in her own capabilities that relies on intrinsic motivation. That’s the kind of motivation that serves a Portrait Photographer in NYC very well. Yes, a support system of family and friends is an invaluable asset to have and one I rely on every day. If, however, you lack the internal drive to go out and achieve, then there is very little anyone else can do. This portrait succeeds at showing Close’s inner determination grown out of many years of acquired knowledge and mastery of the field in which she works. I like that even though she is not placed at the center of the photograph, there is enough of her powerful, character in her eyes to pull you to her face. It’s almost like she is having you meet her on her terms!
