A Portrait Photographer in Washington DC is never far removed from the city’s thriving arts landscape. It includes the National Gallery of Art – home to works by renowned artists such as Monet, Cezanne and Renoir; and the Smithsonian American Art Museum where visitors can view masterpieces of contemporary art. The real beauty of art is that it takes on many different forms – sculptures, paintings, music and dance are but a few. Photography is my artform and it is one I often lose myself in but find it is the purest way in which I can express myself. For master Chef Jaehak Lee, food is his chosen artform and culinary art is an area in which he has consistently excelled. Auckland, New Zealand is his hometown but currently, however, he lives and works in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Since 2012, he has worked as Executive Sous Chef at The InterContinental Hotel in Abu Dhabi. There, he crafts traditional, classical and exotic dishes to the delight of the hotel’s Yacht Club guests. Creating and displaying artwork then stepping back to watch as it is thoroughly enjoyed by others is a process I have cherished as a Portrait Photographer in Washington DC. This picture of Chef Jaehak at the InterContinental Hotel Yacht Club was taken shortly after his preparation of Trilogy of Fish Tartar on Brioche Bread, Arabic Eggs Benedict, and Toasted Pumpernickel Bread with Roasted Lamb and Onion Jam. I know that the look on Chef JaeHak’s face is often mirrored on my own. It is one of love for and pride in his work, as well as confidence in his own abilities. That sublime look and the emotions it reveals are the entirety of the portrait. Everything else … simply fades away.
