For me, the camera is my means of artistic expression and being able to use it as a way to capture the best of someone else’s art, is indeed a privilege. Like many of the other top Photographers in NYC I eagerly look forward to February and September when the fashion calendar’s biggest show, New York Fashion Week, takes centerstage. This being New York, however, it seems fashion shows are held right throughout the year and opportunities abound for every good event photographer who specializes in fashion show photography. Taking pictures at a fashion show will normally have two distinct segments. The first one is photographing the backstage action as the designers, stylists, makeup artists and models get ready for the show. In the second phase, you are positioned in exactly the right vantage point to catch the best possible photos of the models as they show off the designers’ creations on the runway. In order to do that, there are some techniques that professional fashion Photographers in NYC employ. These include taking photos of models as there are in full stride – with one leg well forward and the other behind. It not only adds a dynamic element to the picture, but also allows the entirety of a particular outfit to be seen. This is exemplified in the photo above which was taken during Fashion Arabia at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The designer is Sarah Arnett who has won much acclaim for her artistic expressions which include fashion, interior design, illustrations, public space commissions and packaging. Her beautiful dresses are worn by celebrities such as Cindy Crawford and Christina Aguilera. Her one-of-a-kind creations lit up the runway (and my camera!) at Fashion Arabia.
