For many Photographers in the Boston Area, performance event photography has a life all of its own – it is nerve-racking, dynamic and utterly fun all at once! Think about it for a second – in landscape photography you have the chance to do numerous shots of the same scene in order to capture the perfect shot. In headshot photography, there’s the freedom to manipulate lighting and subject position to get the most flattering outcome. In performance event photography, however, you get none of those luxuries. The performance is happening and quite often it’s happening VERY FAST! There is no stopping to ask performers for a do-over! What there is, however is the chance to get so in-tuned with the performance that you are almost as caught up in it as the performers are. That breathlessness they often experience at the end of a performance is something you share with them – like a collective and satisfied sigh of relief that finally it is over and you know you gave it your all. Just as the performers seek to please their audience, so too I seek to please my clients with the pictures I produce from a performance event. Although each set of photos is completely dependent on specifications from my clients, each will definitely include magnificent pictures of the performance that flawlessly portray the movement, energy and intensity of those on stage. As one of the best Photographers of Boston Area events, I like to make use of the opportunity to see the performers in rehearsal before the big performance. That way, I can anticipate the sequence and highpoints of the performance. Highpoints and moments of true artistic talent were on full display in the event from which the above photo was taken. It shows dancers at the Ailey Citigroup Theater in Manhattan, NY performing “Transitions and Translocations” as part of the Festival of Indian Dance.
