Photos capture an instant – a moment in time that becomes forever frozen. That is perhaps why a good picture from one of the best NYC Photographers becomes such a treasured possession. It manages to freeze a particular point in a story and somehow becomes a story within itself. That’s why crisp, clear images that are somehow dynamic are so appealing to us. We take pleasure in looking at the photo and trying to read the entire story it tells from the details and movement it holds. Perhaps even more appealing, though, are photos like the one above. Photos that sacrifice detail because the powerful motions they depict simply do not need it. Looking at an image like this, we become fascinated with how lines blend, how light takes on whole new characteristics and how details merge to create something more interesting and more beautiful than the details themselves. Not all NYC Photographers, however, can create an image such as this – where motion seems to become energy shinning out through the darkness. The effect is one you can only get from the most experienced performance event photographers. There is no mistaking the intensity of the energy of the dancers on the stage and how much they have become one with the dance. Those dancers are performing “Transitions and Translocations” at Ailey Citigroup Theater, Manhattan, NY. Their performance was a part of the Festival of Indian Dance put on by the Indo-American Arts Council which states a part of its mission as “to present Indian dance through its multiplicity of forms and expression”. The first festival had its debut in 2008 and the event has been held annually since then. It includes not just performances, but also lectures, panel discussions and interactive dance sessions – all with the aim of sharing the “heritage and inspiration” of Indian dance.
