The capital of the US, has always been (and will always be) a focal point for major political and corporate events. As an Event Photographer in Washington DC, I often cover such occasions, and I make sure that I approach each job with all the skills and knowledge I’ve gained over the years. I always arrive at the venue on time, prepared and alert. I quickly determine when and where will be best for getting photos of important individuals; and make sure to catch important “grip and grin” opportunities. Having shots that show the general atmosphere of the event is also important. It’s always good to know up front whether flash photography will be needed even if it is allowed. Although, like every other experienced and professional Event Photographer in Washington DC I can often make very good use of whatever light is available. I also know that while photographs of performances and speeches are necessary to tell the entire story of an event, the process of capturing the images should not be a distraction. The expert event photographer ensures that the act of him doing his job in no way threatens to break the mood or tone of the event. The photograph above was taken at an event where the tone of the event was very important, indeed. The speaker is Yousef Mohamed Al Ojaili, CEO of Oman Gas Company (OGC). He is taking part in a panel discussion on network vision and challenges in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. This particular event took place during the Oil and Gas Pipelines in the Middle East (MEPIPES) conference held at the 5-star Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel & Resort. In attendance were senior technical leaders and decision makers representing all the major Middle East operators.
